I cycled around Kingwood, running errands. It was a good ride with the exception of one incident;
An older woman was leaving a parking lot, waiting to enter West Lake Houston Parkway. She didn’t block the cross walk, but she had her head down texting. As I approached the car I slowed down and tried to get her attention, but when I crossed in front of her car she rolled forward. I fell on her hood and my bike went to the ground abruptly. I’m thankful she did not run over my bike! As I was picking up my bike and looking at the damage (only scratches on the bike) she rolled down her window and started screaming at me; "What the hell are you doing? I should call the police on you!", then she drove off. Everything happened really fast, so I didn’t get her license plate number. Somehow she thought it was my fault? Essentially, I “sat” on her hood as she rolled forward, which left a significant dent of her new Audi. Maybe next time she will look where she’s driving... before she kills someone!

I worked on a couple small projects outside the house. Summer in Houston is here and I’m none too happy about it. I left my house at 5:30 pm to attend Steve Cantu’s 40th birthday party. The thermometer in my truck read 108 degrees and never went below 103 during the 30 minutes of driving. Not only are we setting records high temperatures, but today was the earliest we've EVER had triple digit temperature.
This may sound silly, but... I’m proud to say I started a “diet” on Monday and I’m still adhering to the low caloric parameters. The first two days are the hardest and I often fail during those initial days. I’ve consumed less than 2,000 kcals everyday and I’m already starting to feel better. I quit running, hoping the aches and pains resolve without medical intervention.
You quit running? Great decision.....you'll save your joints for hiking and biking. You can burn almost as much calories walking. Much easier on the joints. I noticed on your bio that you've run a portion of the Ouachita Trail. Now you really need to make plans to hike it. Do a chunck of it in the spring or fall (mid to late March is optimal for finding water). Give me a shout if you need more info.
