Almost ten miles

I worked half a shift of overtime today, which kept me at work for a total of 36-hours.

By 4pm I had only burned 2,000 of the 4,000 calories needed to reach my daily goal. I walked on the treadmill for nearly 1.5 hours and ran for eight minutes. My knees felt good, especially during the run. I’m ready to run further, but I’m TRYING to have patience. A couple hours later I noticed my toe pain creeping back. I’ve been on the treadmill two days in a roll, which might be the root cause of the pain.

I was off duty at 6pm and on the bayou trail before 7pm. The temperatures are cooler, but the humidity was higher. I’d prefer it the other way around for sure. I walked an additional 4.5 miles and still didn’t make my burn, although I should be close. It is hard to accept this because I walked nearly ten miles. Hopefully I hit my burn before the day’s end.

Over the last couple weeks I’ve seen a young female running on the bayou trail. She sticks out a little, because she is a barefoot runner. While walking my trail loops, I watched her run up and down the bayou embankments more times than I can count. She looked so graceful and athletic. The sight of her effortlessly running hill repeats was awe-inspiring. She’s seen Blazer and me several times on the trail and now she waves and says hello as she passes by. Tonight I asked her what she was training for and she replied, “Nothing really, I just want to make sure I get a good night’s sleep”. It is amazing to watch a well trained athlete in motion.

I'm glad to report that Blazer survived while I was at work. The next door neighbor kept a close eye on her and other than repeatedly knocking over her water bucket, she did fine.
