Weekend long walk cut short due to rain. The plan was to walk for three hours, but I settled for two. I could have completed the mileage, but I didn’t want the kids out in the rain. Alison cycled and did a wonderful job. I pushed the stroller with Preston. He was usually quite, although he seemed to enjoy the ride.
Great walk with my kids, there again, every waking moment with my kids is the happiest times of my life. Wish the weather would have held up, because I felt great. I couldn’t resist the urge for small intervals of running. I ran 0.10 mile every 15 minutes. I feel like I could have gone for some respectable mileage… even if it was just walking.
Walk:
6.73 miles
1:53:06
16:48 pace
Run:
0.86 mile
10:12
11:52 pace
Alison is so smart. I told her the minimum cardio time was two hours, but I wanted to aim for three hours. Occasionally she would calculate the remaining time. Sounds simple enough, but she was popping off numbers FAST. Example; the first time she asked how long we had walked I told her “22-minutes”. Out loud she said, “60 minutes in an hour, 2-hours is 120 minutes, minus 20 is 100 and the remaining 2 equals 98 minutes, That is 1 hour and 38 minutes left to walk, right?”. How cool is that for a nine year old!?!?!
Later during the walk I challenged her knowledge and said, “I’ll try to walk faster so we can finish sooner”. With a puzzled look on her face and after a ten second pause she told me… “Dad it doesn’t matter how fast you walk the speed and time are not related”. This girl might be a math prodigy!
A quick workout in the home gym before dinner felt refreshing.
Strength Training: Lower Body
Push-ups were a failed attempt. Out of nowhere my lower back started hurting this evening. I stretched for awhile, but mid-way through the push-ups my back was sending a clear warning to STOP. I pulled out the big guns and took a celebrex. With a little luck, I won’t miss anything other than a few push-ups.
Push-ups: 27
