Making some changes

I’m in search of a new direction. The current fitness/diet plan isn’t working. The training schedule is too aggressive and the recent diet parameters have resulted in late day failures. To make matters worse I have a couple races looming over my head. With that said, I’ve decided to make some adjustments…

First on the chopping block is Rocky Raccoon 50-mile run. I keep trying to convince myself I could finish the race due to the generous cut-off time. My body is not ready to be on its feet the for 16+ hours, which is the minimum time needed to walk 50 miles. I want to clear my mind of stress and just try to lose some weight.

The main goal of 2011 continues to be; GAIN NO WEIGHT.

I’m not sure what to do about the morning smoothies. It only took one week to be “tired” of the taste. Consuming a morning smoothie leaves me content till lunch, but something wild comes over me after 6pm. Before I discontinue the smoothies, I will move them to the evening and see if that helps. For the last several evenings I’ve sabotaged a proper day of eating in the last few hours. This is frustrating, because I was seeing small results on the scale before this started. The small “support group” around me hasn’t been helping me much with my eating either…

My running friends might not agree with my next move, but I’m going to do it anyways. I’m done running until my weight is less than 240 lbs. At this weight I feel like I’m doing more damage than good. My entire body hurts after small runs. Plus, the pain results in a lack of adherence to the running schedule.

I’ll continue with cardio via walking and cycling. Both these activities suit my body well and I generally look forward to these two low impact activities. I’ll aim for a minimum of 30-minutes per day, with 60-minutues being the ideal number.

I’m also going to continue with a vegetarian diet. On this blog I’ve talked at length about the ill effects I experience after eating meat, so I will continue with the vegetarian diet. I’ve been leaning more vegan lately, but it’s not for me. Again, this may be the cause of the late night binges, and nothing to do with the smoothies. Initially I did not plan a weekly “free meal”, but I’ve always had success with a free-meal. I’ll put the free-meal back on the plan as well.

Moving forward…

I slept most of the day. At work we responded to a large mobile home fire last night, plus I’ve been emotionally drained. It wasn’t my intention to sleep the day way, it just kind of happened.

I could sense that I was falling off the wagon, so I decided to go for a walk. Perfect night for a two mile walk on my street, which is exactly two miles.

Walk:
2.04 miles
34:38
16:59 pace

Push-ups: 34

Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight, because I’m suppose to cycle along side of Tom tomorrow while he runs his longest long run.
