Long walk with sprinkles of running

Andrea and I endured the horrific humidity for one hour. The days have been nice, but the heat of the day results in evening showers. The short lived down pours leave everything sticky and generally unpleasant.

One hour cardio

Shaina did her job as my support crew. I was tired and not planning on exercising until she called. Started with thirty-six minutes of cycling followed by another session of 8 x 1r/2w. I was pulling a bike trailer with two kids for a bonus workload. The humidity was the only obstacle, otherwise it was an easy hour of cardio.

Taking Control

Personally I do not completely agree with the Power in Motion schedule, but the program has taken thousands of new runners to the promise land. If completed as prescribed a beginning runner should be able to run a 5k in less than ten weeks.

I’ve decided to reset all the way back to newbie and use the PIM schedule. This week the schedule is 8 X 1-minute run/2-minute walk. For no obvious good reason I competed two extra intervals. Running felt foreign to me. The first two intervals were uncomfortable and at times actually hurt. After those initial runs I fell into a grove.

In other news; Today is an exciting day because Andrea and I “officially” started our formal budget. It has taken us a couple months to iron out minor issues and prepare ourselves for true fiscal responsibility.

A large burden has been lifted off my shoulders and I know everything is going to be better.

Run:
0.95 mile
10:00
10:32 pace

Walk:
1.14 mile
19:45 mile
17:20 pace

Overdue Break

For the last couple years I’ve been ignoring my finances, which has resulted in me losing true control over our money. During the better part of the last two-months I have been working diligently to regain control. It took awhile to get into this mess, so naturally it will take time to dig ourselves out. The good news is we can see light at the end of the tunnel. The biggest obstacle was writing everything down and constructing a strict, albeit feasible budget. We gained a lot of control in the last two-weeks by simply off loading our “nice” vehicles. Both of us had very nice vehicles and now we are driving around in reliable late model cars.

Now that I have addressed our finances I need to address my recent weight gain. It is pathetic to have gained so much weight in such a short time. I’m not looking for excuses nor am I having a pity party. It is time to start sweating more than I have been.

This evening Andrea, Shaina, and I went for a fast-paced three mile walk. The conversation was great and the nearly one-hour walk seemed short. Shaina and I made plans to “start over” again and use each other as a form of accountability. I look forward to finding my way. I feel and look horrible, contrary to the vivid reminders of 192 lb a mere eight months ago.
